What Do the Sun and Moon Talk About?

Maybe the moon gets lonely.

Not because nobody loves him.

Just because he's awake when everybody else is asleep.

Maybe that's why he hangs around the stars.

Do the stars know his name?

Or are they just coworkers?

Does the moon ever get jealous of the sun?

The sun gets paintings.

The sun gets beach days.

The sun gets vacations planned around him.

People write songs about sunsets.

Nobody seems to get excited about a moonrise.

Maybe that's why the moon follows us home.

Maybe he's just looking for someone to notice.

Does the sun ever have bad days?

Does he ever wake up and not feel like shining?

Does he ever get tired of carrying the whole world?

People complain when he's too hot.

People complain when he's gone.

That seems like a hard job.

Maybe that's why sunsets are so pretty.

Maybe that's what exhaustion looks like when you're trying your best.

Do the sun and moon know each other?

Or do they spend their whole lives taking turns?

Passing the sky back and forth.

Trusting the other one will show up.

Never needing credit.

Never keeping score.

Just doing their part.

Do the clouds ever feel guilty?

They block everything.

The stars.

The moon.

The sun.

Yet sometimes they're the most beautiful thing in the sky.

How does that work?

Does the moon know his light isn't really his?

And if he does...

Does it bother him?

Or is he just grateful to have something worth reflecting?

Maybe that's why people like moonlight so much.

It's softer.

Less interested in being noticed.

More interested in helping you see.

Do the stars know they're enough?

Most people can't name a single one.

Yet every night they show up anyway.

No applause.

No paycheck.

No audience.

Just doing what stars do.

Maybe the sky isn't trying to teach us anything.

Maybe it's just up there doing its thing.

And maybe that's the lesson.

Show up.

Shine when it's your turn.

Rest when it isn't.

Help where you can.

Reflect what is good.

And don't spend too much time worrying about who gets the credit.

A solitary tree stands beneath a sky full of stars, silhouetted against a warm horizon glow.
